What makes Brazilian employees Happy at work?
Dissertation written by Flavia Tabora. Durham University
After interviewing 18 managers from Brazil’s Great Places to Work, this study has found that feelings of achievement are the main reason for happiness in Brazilian employees.
"My firm was invited to participate in a very important event and my department
was in charge of the firm’s performance in this event. It was a very challenging
and demanding situation for our department: the firm’s image was depending on
our performance. At the end everything went right and I felt happy seeing that
all that effort led to success".

There are two main aspects interconnected with feelings of Achievement:
a) getting others’ positive inputs in order to reach goals.
"(…) These results were only achieved from the
employees’ high commitment.
And this commitment only proceeds from the fact that people have a confident
perspective in the company and are enjoying very much the work climate and
what they do. These three things together cause a high level of commitment
which produces powerful results".

"This prize was a tangible recognition of
the value from HR’s work and effort
to make the firm an excellent workplace. These awards help to make the HR
work differently because it is valued".
